Family Fun Ideas during Pandemic

Updated: Sep 18, 2022

There has been so many ideas overflowing everywhere as in what to do during this current situation of corona virus and lockdown. It is a very stress full time for everyone and especially parents with little kids. Parents are worried about their kid’s education and learning but if you have little kids the situation can be trickier. Kids have very less attention span which means parents have to come up with more creative ideas to keep them more engaged so you can work more from home and most importantly have a wonderful family time together.

Tip #1 Teach Public speaking by using videos

There are so many children who are scared of public speaking. There is a deep fear in them when it comes of public speaking. We all know the benefits of public speaking, how it can help them in growing more confident, attain leadership qualities and advancement in their career. Using videos can be a great idea to start teaching your kids how to be comfortable in front of the camera. They can watch themselves, listen to their videos and then their confidence will grow. You can turn it into a real fun activity and who knows they may even want to upload stuff on YouTube. They will sure enjoy it and so do the parents watching their kids growing confident.

Tip #2 Drama Activities

This Activity is also a kind of addition to the above public speaking activity, but with a twist. By participating in the drama games and dress up activities it enhances and develop our kid’s confidence, creative and communication skills. We can teach them some stories from different walks of life, from moral stories, to the stories from the religious books or any other fun story. Then all the family members can participate into that drama. You can record it and then watch it together. Acting out a scene from their favorite book or a movie is so natural for kids. Even very young kids do enjoy telling a story with their favorite puppet, a toy or by acting out. Wise parents know this sort of activity is yet another form of celebrating reading!

Tip #3 Garden Activities

Children are bundles of energy, curious, enthusiastic and relentless. Keeping up with their high energy during this time gives a lot of stress to the parents. Outdoor activities like gardening can be perfect classroom to feed their hungry minds. Kids mind are like clean paper, everything is new for them especially for the younger children. Gardening can give them a good knowledge of science, so it’s important to teach them skills that will last with them lifetime. Spring is a good time to teach them about sowing the seeds. You can ask them to make a list of the fruits and vegetables they want to grow and help them to start through it. Next you can teach them about how frequent they can water the seeds. Also ask them to maintain a journal where they can write down their observations weekly. Now it’s time to keep your little ones happy, healthy and educated by using your garden.

Tip #4 Travel the world virtually

You and your kids can for sure travel virtually any city or even countries by using Google Earth. You can fly anywhere without airplane, isn’t fun. You can teach children so much about different places, capitals, cities, oceans, rivers etc. You can watch travel shows together, it will be a great family time. Even playing quizzes like asking capitals, continents, mountains, oceans and rivers will give them thrill and also boost their learning.

Tip #5 Cooking

Cooking can be made into a fun activity, by getting kids involved in various safe activities in the kitchen like peeling, mixing. They can learn about various spices, their benefits and also which vegetable or fruits have what type of vitamins and minerals. Through all this knowledge they will come to know about the significance of healthy living at a very young age. Keeping children involved in cooking, baking activities will not only enhance their skill but also keep them occupied and away from mischief.

Tip #6 Show animal habitats

Spring is the time when we can see many birds putting their nests and laying eggs. You can turn these simple things into a real educational and fun stuff for the kids. Sitting in your backyard and observing the nature can be really relaxing and enjoyable. Learning about the birds is a great way to get kids involved in the natural world. This time of restrictions and confinement gives us a wonderful opportunity to encourage our kids to make a connection with the nature and get absorbed in its elements.

Tip #7 Develop organizing skill

As we are spending so much time at home, it is bound to be messy. So it’s again a perfect time to teach kids the importance of organization. Let them help you in the clean up. Ask them to put back their toys properly. You can make this whole cleaning stuff into a game. They can race to see who finishes first or whose room is neatest. Reward them with their favorite meal, toy, story or even a movie. This will keep them encouraged and they will also understand how to help the parents and why organizing is important. This skill will remain with them for their lifetime.

Tip #8 Exercise together

Staying fit and healthy is very important during this stressful time. Involve your kids in this and make this as a family time. Kids are full with high energy, so exercise can help them to release their energy and stay focused. You can use YouTube for educating them. It can be real fun, you can try different types of techniques and skills like yoga, aerobics or simple dancing together can also be fun and give you memories of beautiful time spent together.
